Banned Book

This book was written in 1932 by William Faulkner. This book is about a poor white family who is about to lose their mother. Her 4 children and husband try to come up with enough money to pay for her coffin. The day before their journey there is a huge rain storm that washes away a bridge that is vital to getting the family to their destination. When they get Addie to her burial sight, her husband goes to a neighboring house to borrow a spade. When he returns the spade he seduces the woman owner. The next morning he gets married.

In 1968 the Graves County in Kentucky school board banned this book because their were passages that made reference to abortion and God. Also there were manny curse words throughout the book. None of the board members actually read the book.

Question-Do you think the book should have banned when none of the board members even read the book?

  1. good job on researching the history of why the book was banned and on giving the reader a good outline of what the book is about.
I think that the board members who banned the book should have read it before making there choice.
